Licensure Renewal Season in Full Swing

Educators whose licenses expire June 30 need to complete requirements and submit their renewal or advance applications as soon as possible if they wish to have an active license on July 1. Please note that all licenses are issued with an effective date of July 1, even if the license is issued after that date. Renewal requirements may be accessed from the Renew a License webpage. Please note that Ohio educators must submit FBI background checks every five years. Individuals who live outside of Ohio must also submit BCI background checks. Questions about the CORE online licensure application system? Educators renewing with coursework should also review information on the Transcript Instructions before submitting official college or university transcripts.

Financial Literacy Licensure Validation Reimbursement Update (6/3/25)

05-30-2025 Financial Literacy

Licensure Validation Reimbursement Processing Begins Soon Per Ohio law, school districts may be reimbursed, up to $500 for each educator, for the cost of the educator pursuing the Financial Literacy Licensure Validation if not already certified to teach financial literacy. Reimbursements submitted using the Financial Literacy Licensure Validation Reimbursement Form by June 4 will be processed during June. Reimbursements received after June 4 will be processed in December. Districts can review the Department's Financial Literacy Licensure Validation and Reimbursement webpage for more information. Questions regarding school district reimbursement should be emailed to Financial.Literacy@education.ohio.gov. Questions regarding licensing or licensure validations should be emailed to the Ohio State Board of Education’s Office of Educator Licensure and Effectiveness at Educator.Licensure@SBOE.ohio.gov.

Share Your View on the State of Elementary Social Studies The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce invites elementary educators and administrators to complete the State of Elementary Social Studies survey. The survey’s purpose is to learn more about the state of elementary social studies instruction, instructional materials, and professional learning needs. The survey will close on May 23.
