My Students Don't Have Microsoft Word!

Thanks to one of our VLA teachers, Sharon, for sharing her experience with a student who did not have Microsoft Word on her computer. As teachers, most of us use Microsoft Word as our word processing program. However, if you've bought a new computer lately, you probably know that Word is not a piece of software that automatically comes with a computer. You have to buy it separately, and it isn't cheap. That means that many VLA students do not have Word on their computers.

So how do you have VLA students send you attachments that you can read? The standard word processing software on a basic computer is Microsoft Works. If your students have Works, you can download a Works to Word converter from Microsoft's website (click HERE).

This converter may not work for all versions of Word/Works, but it's a great place to begin. You may need to go to Microsoft's website (click HERE) and use the search bar to find a converter for your version of Word.
